“He communicates information and brings people together. That’s why in medical astrology Gemini rules the nervous system; it functions as a network to carry messages from the senses to the brain. In social situations, the Gemini archetype is also the catalyst. This involves two factors of course – positive and negative (dual). In the positive sense, Gemini friends are good at circulating your business card at social events. Give them a stack of cards to add t their gardener’s, hairdresser’s, caterer’s, seamstresses. But, in the negative sense, beware of the gossip tendency.” – Kathleen Burt
I am a Gemini. There was a time when I was ashamed to say that I’m a Gemini. People would begin to go off about how horrible their entire life experience has been with us Gems. Really. And then they’d hurl their judgments of me (cloaked as comparisons of course), by the time they were done, I felt like an inappropriate, over talkative, manipulative ass. I’d try to recover by saying, “I’m gregarious”. But you wouldn’t even believe the number of people that chose to believe that I’m not a safe person to be around – because I’m a Gemini. Well let me tell you this: there is a duality about me. And it’s all good. Sure, I may be Bi-polar. But that’s all good too.
Some of my friends and family actually enjoy that I’m a Gemini. My duality. Yes, there seems to be two of me in many aspects of my life. But to a degree, it balances me. I still love myself when I hate myself. See myself as honest when I’m lying. See myself as creative when I feel like a slug. See what I mean? And you know what? I am gregarious! I love people. Love to hate ’em and love to love ’em. Sometimes I love too fast. Sometimes I want all that I cannot have or have. But overall, I love who I am, and am happy that I’m loved by someone else.
The only time I’ve ever paid attention to whether I was born under Chinese Astrology’s Year of the Rat, Year of the Pig, or the Monkey has been while waiting recently for my dinner in a local Chinese restaurant, reading the animal’s names and corresponding New Year dates only to find myself ruminating why my dinner wasn’t served in twenty minutes!
I’m learning only the beginnings of this complex astrology, and so far know that:
There are 12 animal representations, associated with a branch (of which there apparently is no English translation). Each animal and its associated branch are aligned with a New Year date. As I scan my place mat for my birth year of 1961, I discover I was born in the year of the Ox! Further reading tells me that we are in the “Year of the Rabbit” until February 3, 2011 after which time it will be the year of the Dragon.
Lately, with my fascination for the Zodiac and my own daily horoscope, I thought I might try expanding beyond and see what my outlook may be like for 2011 according to the Chinese Astrology.
The Year of the Metal Rabbit should bring progress and expansion. The Metal element exerts a beneficial influence on Water, which is this sign’s element. Last year certainly was a bumpy ride. There may still be a few obstacles in 2011, but there’ll be ten favorable months to look forward to, and only two not-so-favorable months. Being the typical Ox, one needs to work on being more flexible and less stubborn. Compromise is the mentor of teaching how to bend with the wind. A tough and powerful creature, the Ox might butt heads with others if forceful about being right. Borrow some creativity and gentleness from the Rabbit. Raise expectations, and practice diplomacy to get what the Ox wants.
While things should stay steady on the home front, there could be a few challenging moments in the land of love. The Rabbit is strong and stubborn like the Ox, so relationships might feel strained. When dealing with other strong personalities it may be wise to show one’s soft and sensitive side to everyone, including loved ones. Harmony and order will be important this year. Work on communication skills and heal any rifts with estranged friends or family.
A typical Ox might be a bit of a foodie. 2011 is a good time to restore balance to your digestive system and make sure you’re eating healthy. If there are any long-standing health issues, it’s time to discuss them from a holistic approach. A sensible diet is one piece of the puzzle, but consideration of the other factors that encourage balance and wellness. Exercise. Relaxation. Meditation. Laughter. Make sure life holds equal parts of each or the Ox could burn out quickly.
As the element of our year, Metal also rules several months in 2011, including the Ox. There will be several Triple Metal days — where the element of the year, month, and day all match — which could make for some incredible luck where money is concerned. Jump at the opportunities in favorable months but exercise caution in the unfavorable ones. More than anything, it is one’s Oxen diligence that will reap the most rewards. Avoid any get-rich-quick schemes and instead just let your talents bring in prosperity.
None of what I’ve discovered so far is really difficult to digest. For me personally, things have gotten out of hand lately and I do need to slow down a bit and check-in on those priorities. That stress level that had a hard time waiting for dinner needs things to be simpler; making sure what’s necessary is getting done without overextending one’s self.

“We’re like that!” is what we say when we are trying to communicate how close we are to another, and by crossing our fingers together. A union, signified by the cross has been used as a representation since ancient times and implies complete harmony. Gebo is associated with the planet Venus, the goddess of love. Whenever this rune is drawn for the person being read, know without a doubt that the person is bringing a matter of the heart. Gebo is a benevolent influence; however the surrounding runes show more and may even show difficulties in relationships. When this rune is drawn, the person for whom the reading is occurring is, or will soon be in a general state of relaxation and peace with themselves and the rest of the world.
At one’s innermost level the appearance of Gebo may be issuing a form of warning that some gift – be it money, love or wisdom – is likely to come to the person being read. We all know that nothing in life comes for free and without some sort of cost. All gifts imply that equality must be attained; one must give back, equal in value to such a gift, either in this lifetime or the next. There’s always a price to pay. In a manner of speaking, this rune speaks to the innumerable laws of karma – “As you sow, so shall ye reap.”
As a result, I recommend that one doesn’t consider the appearance of this rune to be entirely positive. The outcome may prove to be productive, but not, necessarily positive. Ignore one’s inherent responsibilities and the outcome could be perilous.
A Poem About Gemini and Leo in Relationship
Distorted reality reflected off the pond’s mirror image
Moon showing, the Crescent proudly crowning the night
Stars were circling, Leo passed through Gemini all of it making little sense.
I heard the echo around me. Nothing is as it seems.
I was alone then for others understood not my power.
No. I knew not how to control it.
So I alone brought my anger there. No one’s fear but mine was present.
The Lightening lashed, screaming for the roar of thunder.
Finally the battle was over. Gentle rain washed me clean of my hurt.
So I knew peace for a while. I slept dreaming of the Gardens I was on my path to.
I glimpsed the Runes.
I breathed deeply of his Aqua Velva cologne.
Tasted the sweet Texas tea.
Waiting for it to all fade away
And to begin a beautiful day.

On the surface, this rune pertains to gifts. Kenaz is associated with Mars and the spring equinox, when the arrival of new life, rebirth and renewal was traditionally celebrated by people of ancient times. One can make the leap then that Kenaz symbolizes fertility and can portend the arrival of a baby or child.
Kenaz is a masculine gendered rune and relates to the dominant person in the situation for which the reading is occurring. If the person being read is asking about business, then Kenaz implies that the dominant person will be calling the shots or making the offers. If the dominant person is the one being read, the rune cast will show whether the offer should be accepted.
The same applies to personal relationships, as Kenaz signals that the dominant person in the relationship will be soon offering a gift. Any surrounding runes in the casting show the motive behind the gift and whether it should be accepted or not.
The torch aspect of Kenaz represents knowledge and spiritual enlightenment to “light the way.” One may be required to use their own inner knowledge to help light the way for someone less fortunate than themselves.
Kenaz signifies loss when drawn reversed. A potentially rewarding business deal will fall apart. If it is a child one is hoping for, Kenaz reversed signals they are false hopes, false alarms, and infertility. Kenaz may also signal the loss of an employment situation or relationship. Never fear however. Kenaz isn’t just about gloom and doom. The loss shall be only temporary or altered by the surrounding runes on the field, indicating any loss could be temporary.
One will always find when reading the runes, that none of them is one-dimensional; especially Raidho. This rune, like Ansur, is also connected with the planet Mercury and is thus associated with communication. The communication associated with Raidho is especially directed toward travel. This rune causes an opposition between the ideas of travel and communication. Travel may be interpreted quite literally with this rune showing that for the person for whom we are reading a trip or physical journey may be expected. On the other hand, as travel in the ancient Germanic lands was treacherous and much longer in duration in the extreme, Raidho may be signaling that the person is ready to embark on a journey of personal growth; an inner journey that will bring enlightenment and yield new levels of understanding and knowledge.
Unlike Ansur, which counsels caution, forethought and advice before taking action, Raidho signals a need to move now. The outlook is good, as it is time for the person being read to shirk the “I can’t decide one way or the other” scenario and make a decision. The planet Mercury rules trade and as a result, Raidho can signal that there is some significant form of a business transaction in the near future. Recalling that the central meaning behind the rune Raidho is communication and travel, the person being read could receive some form of message that could skew the entire present situation in a most unexpected way.
When Raidho is drawn in the reversed position, obstacles and delays may be looming related to travel. If the person we are reading is planning a trip of some sort, there are sure to be any number of hindrances in the way of progress. Another sign of Raidho reversed is the message that a need for travel may present itself at a most inappropriate time, leaving one’s home or base, vulnerable. Lastly, this rune also may signal in the reversed position that one may expect a visit from a person that will result in unimaginable inconvenience.
It’s quite possible that many don’t know what the Viking “Runes” are. Used as a daily guide personally for more than twenty years now, I’d like to share what I know about the Runes:
The last current use of the Runes was in Iceland during the Middle Ages. Much of the wisdom of the Rune masters of the time died with them. Little has remained but the standing Rune stones, the sagas, and the far-flung fragments of runic lore and the Runes themselves. The text most often used for its comprehensiveness is “The Book of Runes” by Ralph Blum. I still use my first set of Runes which are simply pieces of rose quartz with one of twenty-five symbols cut into them. I got my stones from a metaphysical bookstore in Sedona and keep them charged with the magnetic energy from Sedona by taking my Runes with me each trip I make there. My stones are kept in a rare and beautiful bag, colorful and reminiscent of diversity.
I cast my Runes on a small Navajo made place mat of sorts. All of this special treatment for such wise stones! A motto for the Runes could be, “Know thyself”. The Runes are a teacher; one’s daily source for guidance. By consulting with the Runes, one becomes in touch with one’s own inner guidance; that part you that understands everything you need to know for your life. The Runes allow an individual to bypass the strictures of reason, the bindings of conditioning and the momentum of habit. Once we begin to make contact with the Runes we will begin to hear messages of profound beauty and true usefulness.
Sometimes it is easiest to demonstrate the use of the Runes through a reading. Following is a summary of my personal reading for today, August 2, 2010:
Fehu is a Rune which addresses possessions, nourishment and cattle. Drawn in the reversed position, there may be considerable frustration in my life today, a wide range of dispositions ranging from trivial to severe. I fall short in my efforts, I reach out and miss; I am compelled to stand by and watch helplessly while what I’ve gained dwindles away. I am advised to observe what is happening. I am to examine these events from an open inspection, “What do I need to learn from this in my life?” Even if there is occasion for joy, I should not let myself be seduced into mindless joyousness. Reversed, this Rune indicates that doubtful situations are abundant and come in many forms and guises. Here I am being put in touch with the shadow side of possessions. Yet all this is part of coming to be and passing away, and not that which abides. In dealing with the shadow side of Fehu, I have an opportunity to recognize where my true nourishment lies.
I am a Gemini. For quite a long time, I hesitated to tell anyone my sign of the Zodiac. I had grown to feel ashamed of my astrological star sign. Sadly, this shame was caused by judgmental and opinionated individuals who, when they became aware of my card carrying Gemini status, would launch the tale of their “dramastic” existence with their Gemini, punctuating with extra flair the parts of their story that illustrate how horrible their entire life experience had been with Gemini. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, they’d hurl their judgments of me cloaked as comparisons of course, by the time they were done, I felt like an inappropriate, over talkative, manipulative ass. I’d try to recover by saying, “But really, I’m just gregregarious.” These ignorant and lost individuals have come to believe that Gemini’s are not safe people to be around and have applied this judgment across the board for all Gemini’s.
To know what it is these shallow individuals fear, I began a collection of sorts over the course of many years, which consists of an eclectic blend of varying degrees of opinions profiling that mysterious and dangerous Gemini! Here is my abridged version of my “Best of the Worst” Gemini profiles:
It is said that a Gemini will take either side of an argument, not because they feel strongly about their position, but simply for the fun of it. A Gemini is adaptable and flexible, and has an insatiable craving for a variety of distractions to gratify their quick, changeable minds. Self-expressive, to the world the Gemini is cheerful and optimistic, but those within the inner circle of the Gemini know that there is also an opposing moody side to the personality.
Independent, a Gemini will not be held down by anyone or any rules of society. A Gemini craves the experiences one can gain through exploration of the world around us. Change and freedom are sacred to the Gemini and it is incomprehensible to them to allow anyone to dictate their life. I recall reading in Gemini personality profiles that a Gemini is a very interesting and exciting friend. They like to leave their “Gem was here! ” on everyone they meet. They are known to be very flighty and can be expected to disappear for a long time as they meet new friends and discover new places. When they finally return, be prepared for their overly exuberant communication of their thoughts, opinions and interesting things to share and ideas to teach. Life is very interesting and fun with a Gemini.
Need advice? Ask a Gemini, their mastery of communication will help you feel like you’re getting just what you need through their artful persuasion and enthusiasm, and they give good advice too. Do not however, burden a Gemini down with all of your emotional problems. They have no desire to deal with your problems because it has the potential to depress them. Looking for a ride on the “Gossip Express” A Gemini pal will let you in on all the musings of the he said/she said: crowd.
I have been kept wondering about the emotional balance of the many people who have expressed their refusal of the opportunity to get better acquainted with me. These individuals made their choice because they believe in the astrological calendar so exclusively, and especially enjoy that with every set of Zodiac interpretations they receive a set of labels for each star sign, handy for when those long days of passing judgment finally give way to placing their victims in a box, with label!
Seriously though, I find that my duality balances me. I still love myself when I hate myself. I see myself as honest when I’m lying. I see myself as creative when I feel like a slug. I am gregarious and I do love people. I love to hate them and I love to love them. Sometimes, I love too fast. Sometimes I want all that I cannot have or possess. But overall, I love who I am, and am happy that I’m loved by someone else.
I have someone special in my life who finds what seems to be endless humor in the “traits” of a Gemini personality and he enjoys that I’m a Gemini. He is a Leo, and certainly has had judgment passed on the standard traits of his sign as well. In my love for this special man, therein lies the end of my duality. Together, he and I make a whole person. I’m one. He’s one. So how compatible are these two signs?
Both tend to find consensus on an emotional and mental level. Leo feels he must always be the center of attraction but feels neglected when Gemini becomes absorbed elsewhere. Leo’s desire to take control may overpower Gemini’s free spirit. If both agree to let each other be free to be their own authentic selves, a sparkling combination is made. When a Leo and a Gemini team up, they can show more sparkle than “Sparkle Josh” from HGTV’s season two DesignStar! Their mutual love of laughter and life gives them great common ground and they can even teach each other a thing or two. Those dazzling Gemini’s will make their handsome head of the pride relax more knowing that as a result, they will be bestowed with Leo’s generosity and wonderful warmth.
Gemini has a way with words and Leo is wired for forgiveness. Any war wounds heal quickly after their battles or disagreements in their partnership. There’s an ebullient theatrical atmosphere to this union and a wonderful time in their mind is time spent in a movie theater after dinner out at their favorite frou-frou type restaurant. Have tickets to the ballet, opera or symphony? You’ll find ample Gemini/ Leo pairings there too. After a night out on the town, a Gemini and Leo couple head straight for home to have their own delectable Sexcapades, almost seeming to melt into one another. Only now is Gem at a loss for words. Outside their Romper Room for sex, they continue to be a caring couple and the child like charm of the Gemini will captivate that large Leo heart.
Leo is extremely drawn to Gemini by his sex appeal. Gemini has brawn, good looks and a brain. Leo finds Gemini’s qualities to be very hot, very sexy. Gemini is witty and can make Leo laugh in a heartbeat which is another plus. Leo will be up for the challenge of mysterious Gemini. Gemini thinks Leo is the best looking lover they have ever had. There is great sex potential and long-term possibility. To make this pairing work, Leo should provide Gemini lots of freedom and keep his sense of humor available at all times. Leo will need to tone down his dramatic episodes and laziness if his strong desire to keep Gemini in the pride. Gemini should always be aloof and remain a mystery to Leo at all times to assure his rightful spot in the pride. Both Leo and Gemini love to party and will share great conversations together, which is a bonus. Don’t keep secrets from Leo, Gemini!
It’s easy to read the Gemini profile and see that they can be interesting, sexy cool individuals, given a gift off phenomenal communication ability, strong sense of adventure and their protective nature of their world filled with positive thoughts and lots of fun. Not to mention their enthusiasm for “knock your socks off” mind blowing sex! Based on this compilation of opinions and made-up-in-the-head “Action Drama for the Comatose”, These “experts” seem to have equated Leo and his Gem to a three star rating on a five star rating scale, Gemini and Leo as astrological signs are said to have enough in common, and enough dissimilarity, to keep things interesting and exciting when coupled. We all know that there’s so much more to this pairing; much more than the quick version making up this blog. There are some very titillating highlights now shared, and after writing this, I don’t feel all that ashamed to be a Gemini anymore. Who wrote this blog anyway? Was it a Gemini? There’s one particular Leo/ Gemini duo that seems to be living up to their astrological reputations indeed!
